We’ve all heard about the benefits of drinking enough water, right?
At the most basic level, it helps keep us hydrated; our is about 60% water, after all!
But the benefits don’t stop there, of course. Getting enough water also:
- Keeps our skin looking younger.
- Flushes out toxins from our body.
- Prevents headaches and cramps.
- Increases brain power.
- Provides increased energy.
- Promotes weight management and weight loss.
I don’t know about you, but those reasons are pretty compelling to me!
While many of us understand the benefits of drinking enough water each day, so many of us – myself included – struggle to follow through on the plan.
And soon enough we find ourselves dragging at the end of the day; we have low energy, a throbbing headache, and we’re mistaking hunger for thirst pangs, all because we didn’t hydrate throughout the day.
So what can we do?
How can we make sure we’re hydrating properly?
That, my friend, is exactly what I’m here to share with you today.
So keep reading to learn my 8 favorite tips to drink more water and increase your hydration levels today!
Drink More Water With 8 Easy Tips
1: Add Flavor to Your Water:
One of the complaints I often hear from people is that they’re bored with water. They’re craving a little flavor and they want to hydrate with something a little more exciting.
I hear you!
One great way to do add a little flavor to your hydration plan without resorting to sugary drinks is by adding fresh fruit and/or vegetables to your water.
I like to add lemon or orange slices. Strawberries, watermelon, and cucumbers are fun additions, too!
2: Carry a Water Bottle Everywhere
Yes, I realize this is a basic suggestion. But the truth is, it’s also the most effective.
You see, when I have water sitting in front of me, I drink it.
It’s really as easy as that.
So fill up your favorite water bottle, carry it everywhere, and watch your water intake skyrocket.
3: Drink a Glass of Water Before You Eat
Before you reach into the refrigerator for a snack or sit down for a meal, drink a full glass of water first.
Yes, you read that right.
Drink a glass of water before you eat something. Every time.
You will find that this strategy not only helps you increase your water intake, it also helps you increase your mindfulness about how much you snack throughout the day. Bonus!
4: Eat Water-Rich Foods
A simple – yet sneaky – way to increase your water is by eating water-rich fruits and vegetables.
Celery, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, watermelon, and zucchini are all great ways to get more water in your diet.
Next time you’re feeling hungry, reach for one of these water-rich foods and enjoy it alongside that glass of water from step 3.
5: Make Drinking Water Part of Your Routine
Every morning when you wake up and every night after dinner, drink a big glass of water. With just that simple shift you increase your water intake by 2 full cups – easy!
6: Alternate Beverages
Are you a big coffee or tea drinker? Do you love a can of Diet Coke in the afternoon?
If so, adopt the practice of alternating one sip of water with one sip of your flavored beverage. Not only does this help you drink more water, but it also makes your tasty drink last longer. Woohoo!
Basically, it is a water bottle with the time of day written down the sides. If it’s 9:00 a.m. your water level should match the 9:00 a.m. marker on the side of the bottle.
I’m telling you, it’s genius!
8: Track your water consumption
If you’re a person who likes to track your habits, then this is a fun strategy to add to the list. You can use your favorite tracker app, or download your own FREE habit tracker here and check off each glass of water you drink. It’s a fun way to ensure you’re getting the water you need each day.
