Out of all the posts I’ve written on this site, my most visited focuses on low-carb eating.
With more people experimenting with a lower carb lifestyle than ever before, we are hungry for more information about how to make the switch both healthfully and easily.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I’ve been a low-carb eater for a few years now; I feel my best following this lifestyle, and I have no intention of turning back anytime soon.
I have more energy. My digestion is better. And I have an easier time staying on track with my health and fitness goals.
When I share my experience with others, one of the most common questions I get concerns low carb snack options. In fact, I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been asked about healthy, low carb snacks that help us stay on track.
And I can’t say I’m surprised. Since so much of the food industry focuses on higher carb, sugar-laden bars, snack packs, and treats, it can feel challenging to find simple low carb and keto snacks that fit the bill.
Fortunately, there are some great options out there, and today I’m excited to share with you my favorites. Let’s do this!
10 Simple, Healthy Low Carb and Keto Snacks
1. Hard Boiled Eggs
Filled with protein and healthy nutrients, eggs are a perfect, well-rounded snack to fuel you through your afternoon slump. Enjoy them with a sprinkle of salt or get really fancy and mix up a batch of deviled eggs. You can’t go wrong.
2. Lettuce Wraps
Missing your favorite sandwich? Why not enjoy all the fixings wrapped up in a big lettuce leaf instead? You get all the flavor and healthy protein without all of the excess carbs.
While nuts can be relatively high in carbs if eaten in excess – especially cashews and pistachios – they are also a great balance of protein, fat, and fiber, which helps you feel satisfied throughout the day. As long as you keep your portions in check, they are an excellent option for a healthy, low carb snack.
Cheddar, provolone, mozzarella, whatever your favorite cheese, you’re in luck; they’re all great choices for low carb and keto snacks. If you’re looking for a convenient grab-and-go option, opt for string cheese or cheese wedges.
Filled with healthy fats, olives are an excellent and easy option for low carb snacking. They even have convenient grab and go containers. Do keep sodium levels in mind, however, as olives can be quite salty.
I. Love. Avocado. Full stop. Smooth, rich, and creamy, avocado is filled with healthy monounsaturated fats. Whether you eat it on top of a salad, enjoy it with scrambled eggs, or eat it plain, half an avocado is always a good choice in my book.
Whether you rock the traditional beef jerky, opt for the turkey jerky, or get really adventurous with some of the newer varieties available, jerky is an easy, delicious option for a low carb snack. Be mindful of the ingredients label, however, and opt for a brand without added sugars. (I personally love the Vermont brand.)
8. Meat and Cheese Roll-ups
Grab a slice of your favorite meat and cheese (I love roasted turkey and cheddar), roll them up, and enjoy! High in protein and super tasty; it doesn’t get much easier than that.
9. Canned fish
Are you a fan of canned tuna or salmon? Then you’re in luck! This is another delicious, nutritious, protein-packed option. Want to get super fancy? Mix it with a little avocado – YUM!
10. Plain Greek Yogurt (2% or full fat)
Hands down one of my favorite foods, plain Greek yogurt is so satisfying. Rich, creamy, and super filling, this high protein snack is a great option when you need an afternoon pick-me-up. My favorite is Fage 2%. (Tip: Avoid the fat-free options; frankly, they don’t taste very good, and they don’t keep you full as long. NOT worth it in my book.)
There you have it, friends. My favorite healthy low carb snacks. Add them to your grocery list and enjoy!
