You’ve started a healthy eating plan.
You’re working out regularly.
And you’re seeing results from all of your hard work.
Congratulations; that’s incredible!
But now you’re wondering how you can stick with this lifestyle for the long term. How can you maintain a healthy diet while still living your life?
Well, I have some good news for you, friend. It’s absolutely possible. And today I’m sharing with you 5 simple strategies to help you do it.
5 Easy Tips to Maintain a Healthy Diet
Plan Ahead When Eating Out
One of the biggest questions people have when they ask me how to maintain a healthy diet is this: how can I eat out and live my life?
I get it. You don’t want to feel like you’re on a diet for the rest of your life. You don’t want to feel restricted. And you certainly don’t want to “miss out” on all the fun.
And guess what – you don’t have to!
Nope, you’re not stuck eating at home for the rest of your life. WOOHOO!
The next time you’re heading out to dinner, all you need to do is plan ahead a bit.
Check out the menu ahead of time and decide what you’re going to order. I assure you; 99% of the time, you will find some version of protein and vegetables.
Then, when you get to the restaurant, be the first person to order. Studies have shown that people are often influenced by whoever ordered before them. So set a healthy standard for everyone and order exactly what you planned ahead of time.
Remember It’s Not All Or Nothing
If you are ready to maintain a healthy diet for the long term, then you need to remember that it’s not all or nothing.
Because here’s the truth – we all slip up every once in a while.
When we have an all-or-nothing mentality, these slipups often lead to unhealthy choices for the rest of the day, week, and even month. Heck, it can make you want to throw in the towel altogether.
So rather than telling yourself your day is “ruined” when you ate those donuts in the breakroom this morning, just put that choice behind you and start fresh with the next meal.
Every day is a choice and every meal is a choice. Your goal is simply to make as many good choices as possible.
Remember Your Why
Often when we begin our healthy living journey, we have an easier time staying consistent because it is still fresh and new.
We are excited by the novelty of something novel, and we’re invigorated by the possibility of a healthier lifestyle.
Once that “newness” wears off, however, it’s easy to lose your motivation.
If you notice this happening to you, challenge yourself to remember why you started your journey in the first place.
Were you ready to rediscover your energy so you can keep up with your kids? Did you want to solve those digestive issues that have plagued you for so long? Were you excited to move your body again?
Whatever your reason, take some time to reflect on the bigger why and rediscover your motivation.
One of the best ways to set yourself up for success and maintain a healthy diet is to practice meal prepping each week.
When you set aside a few hours once a week to cut up fresh vegetables, prepare a few healthy meals, and stock up on simple, healthy snacks, you make it much more convenient to stick with your healthy living goals.
Release The Drama
One of the biggest secrets to maintaining a healthy diet is releasing the mind drama that surrounds the lifestyle.
You see, when we adopt a healthier lifestyle, we often battle a lot of negative thoughts along the way.
Our brain tells us that we’re depriving ourselves. We get frustrated when we hit a plateau and we stop seeing results. And we come face to face with a whole bunch of unpleasant emotions since we decided to stop eating them.
And let’s be honest, this is super hard.
But guess what; you can do hard things. You can work through the drama. And you can let it go.
And if you’re ready to take that leap and work through the mind drama, I’d love to help you! Learn more here about how you can start living your best life here!
